Blue Flower Square Bed Cover Crochet Pattern
You need basic dc, sc and hdc skills and the patience to count petals.
Each square is small and portable, so you can make one in an evening or two.
Royal blue petals and a green center on white lace make a fresh, happy bedroom.
About This Blue Flower Square Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
This bed cover is made from 30 square blocks. Each block has a large royal blue eight-petal flower with a green octagon center, and white lacy web corners fill out the square. A row of blue shells and a white scalloped shell edge finish the cover.
The finished size is about 76 by 90 inches, and two matching shams are included. You will use dc, sc, hdc, ch and sl st only, so it suits crocheters who have made a few blankets and want a bold showpiece.
Why You'll Love This Blue Flower Square Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
I love that every square is its own small project. I can work on one flower at a time, so a huge bed cover never feels like too much.
The blue petals are quick and satisfying to watch grow. Laying all the squares on the floor to see the pattern appear is my favorite part. It also makes a lovely gift for a wedding or a new home.
Switch Things Up
Try soft pink petals with a yellow center for spring, or deep red petals with a dark green center for winter. Make 6 squares for a baby blanket, 12 squares for a throw, or one square for a cushion cover. You can also change the shell edge to a simple picot edge or make the edge all one color.

Assembly Instructions
- Weave in all ends on the 30 Flower Blocks and the 2 Sham Fronts, then block each piece flat to its size, about 14 inches for the blocks and 20 inches for the shams.
- Lay the Flower Blocks in 5 columns by 6 rows, all facing the same way.
- Join the blocks into rows with white sc through the back loops, then join the 6 rows together, matching corners.
- Work the Cover Edge around the whole cover: the white base round, the blue shell round, the white loop round and the white shell round.
- Work the Sham Edge around each Sham Front the same way.
- Cut a 21 by 21 inch piece of white cotton fabric for each sham back, place it wrong sides together with the Sham Front, and sew three sides with a whip stitch just inside the edge.
- Insert a 20 by 20 inch pillow form and close the last side.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Skipping the ch-1 sp between petals in Rounds 5 and 6 lets the petals merge, so remember to ch 1 and skip the ch-1 sp of the previous round every time.
Counting the ch 3 as a dc is easy to forget, so check the stitch total at the end of every round before moving on.
Blocks that are blocked to different sizes make the joins pucker, so pin every block to the same measurements and let them dry flat.
Tight stitches in the white lace rounds make the corners curl, so use the same hook size throughout and pull the ch-1 spaces loosely.
Important Notes
Gauge: Rounds 1 to 7 should measure about 9 inches across with a 4.0 mm hook, so make one block first and adjust your hook size to match.
Yarn amounts and finished size are estimates, so check them against your first block before you buy all the yarn.
Wash gently by hand or on a delicate cycle with a color catcher, because the blue may bleed on the white. Lay flat to dry.
I hope you enjoy every flower. Take it one square at a time, and send me a photo of your first finished block.
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
What size is the finished bed cover?
About 76 by 90 inches with 30 blocks in a 5 by 6 grid, including the edge. Add or remove a row or column of blocks to fit your own bed.
Can I use a different yarn weight?
Yes. A thinner cotton with a smaller hook makes smaller blocks, so you will need more of them. Keep the stitch counts in the rounds the same, and recompute the edge counts so the 4-stitch repeat still divides evenly.
How do I wash and care for it?
Hand wash in cool water with a gentle soap, add a color catcher, press out the water without wringing, and lay flat to dry, reshaping the petals and corners while damp.
Success!
