Why You'll Love This Lilac Owl Amigurumi Pattern with Big Eyes and Wings Pattern

I love how much personality this little owl has. The big white eyes with golden centers make me smile every time I look at them. The tiny black feather marks were my favorite part to stitch, because they bring the wings and belly to life.

Switch Things Up

Assembly Instructions

  1. Assemble each eye by pushing a safety eye through an iris, then a white eye ring, then the body between rounds 24 and 25, about 9 stitches apart, and lock it on the inside.
  2. Sew around the edge of each white eye ring to the body with the long tail so it sits flat.
  3. Sew the beak between the eyes at round 22 with small tight stitches.
  4. Curve each ear tuft slightly and sew the straight edge to rounds 29 and 30 of the head, angled outward above each eye.
  5. Sew the top of each wing to the side of the body at rounds 14 to 20, so the wings hug the body.
  6. Sew three toes to the front of each foot, then sew each foot to the bottom of the body near the front edge, about 4 stitches apart, so the owl stands.
  7. With black floss, stitch small V shapes on each wing and in loose rows on the belly.
  8. Weave in all ends and shape the body with your hands.

You Ask, We Answer

How big is the finished owl?

It is about 7 inches (18 cm) tall and 5 inches (13 cm) wide including the wings, with worsted weight yarn and a 3.5 mm hook.

Can I use a different yarn weight?

Yes. Sport weight yarn with a 2.5 mm hook makes a mini owl of about 5 inches. Chunky yarn with a 5 mm hook makes an owl of about 10 inches. Change the eye size to match.

Is this owl safe for children and can I wash it?

Yes, if you embroider the eyes and sew every piece on very firmly. Do not use safety eyes for children under 3. Wash it by hand in cool water and air dry.
