Blue and Cream Block Bedspread Crochet Pattern
You need to be comfortable with double crochet, mesh rounds and turning rows.
Each block takes about 90 minutes, so it is a long and relaxing project.
Royal blue and cream blocks with pointed edges give a classic coastal bedroom feel.
About This Blue and Cream Block Bedspread Crochet Pattern Pattern
This bedspread is made from 56 square blocks, worked in the round from a center ring outward. Each block has four fan shaped wedges of double crochet with two open mesh rounds that create the lacy gaps. The blocks are laid out in seven vertical bands, alternating royal blue and cream, and finished with a row of stepped triangle points along the foot and both sides.
The finished bedspread measures about 84 by 96 inches (213 by 244 cm), which drapes over a queen bed. Each block is about 12 inches (30 cm) square after blocking. It suits stitchers who enjoy repeating one block and like a big project they can carry anywhere.
Why You'll Love This Blue and Cream Block Bedspread Crochet Pattern Pattern
I love this project because every block is small and portable. I can crochet one on the sofa, in the car or at a friend's house, and the bedspread grows without me noticing.
The blue and cream colors feel fresh and calm in a bedroom, and the open mesh lets a little light through. It makes a lovely gift for a wedding or a new home.
Switch Things Up
Try navy and soft gray for a quieter look, or sage green and cream for a spring bedroom. Make only 4 columns of 5 blocks for a lap throw, or 3 columns of 4 blocks for a baby blanket. You can also make one cream block with a blue border as a pillow cover, or skip the points and finish with a simple single crochet edge.

Assembly Instructions
- Make 32 royal blue and 24 cream Fan Blocks, then block each one to about 12 inches (30 cm) square so all blocks are the same size.
- Lay the blocks on the floor in 7 columns of 8, alternating blue and cream columns as in the Layout section, with blue columns on both outer sides.
- Join the blocks in each column first. Use a yarn needle and whip stitch through the back loops only, using the same color as the blocks. Match the corner spaces at each seam.
- Join the 7 columns together in the same way. For seams between a blue and a cream column, use cream yarn.
- Block the whole bedspread flat, pinning the edges straight, and let it dry fully.
- Work the Edge Base Row down the left side, across the foot and up the right side, changing color with each block.
- Work a Stepped Point over the 45 sc of each of the 23 block edges, then weave in all ends.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Counting the corner spaces as stitches. Keep each corner as (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) so every block ends with exactly 45 dc per side.
Skipping the blocking step. Unblocked blocks vary in size and the seams will ripple, so pin each block to the same measurement.
Working the mesh rounds too tightly. Keep the ch-1 spaces loose enough to see the open gaps on rounds 4 and 6.
Joining the seams with a tight whip stitch. Sew loosely so the bedspread can drape over the edge of the bed.
Important Notes
Gauge is about 4 dc to 1 inch (2.5 cm) with a 4 mm hook. Make one block first to check that it measures 12 inches (30 cm).
Yardage and finished size are estimates from the photo, so swatch one block before you buy all the yarn.
Wash in cool water on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry. Use a color catcher when washing, because the royal blue and cream yarns can bleed together.
I hope you enjoy making this blue and cream bedspread as much as I did. Take it one block at a time, and soon you will have something special for your bedroom.
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
What size is the finished bedspread?
About 84 by 96 inches (213 by 244 cm) with 56 blocks, enough to drape over a queen bed. Each block is about 12 inches (30 cm) square.
Can I use a different yarn weight or make a different size?
Yes. A thinner cotton with a smaller hook gives smaller blocks, so you need more blocks to cover the bed. For a throw, make 4 columns of 5 blocks and skip the edge points.
How do I wash and care for it?
Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle with a color catcher, then lay flat to dry. Avoid hot water so the blue does not run into the cream.
Success!
