This blanket starts as a tiny flower and grows round by round into a colorful mandala. The center has pointed hot pink petals, a ring of popcorn bobbles and soft teal lace. After Round 14 the circle is turned into a square, and the rest of the blanket is worked in bands of petals, mesh, arches and fans.

It uses seven colors: hot pink, light pink, raspberry, teal, sage green, mustard gold and cream. The finished size is about 38 by 38 inches, which suits a lap, a sofa arm or a baby. Assembly Instructions

  1. Weave in the ends of the Mandala Center as you finish each color, so you do not have a pile of tails at the end.
  2. After Round 14, lay the circle flat and check that it measures about 13 inches across and that it is not cupped or ruffled.
  3. Work the Squaring and Body rounds with a stitch marker in each corner sp, and check the stitch count at the end of Round 15 before you continue.
  4. Work the Border rounds, finishing with the reverse single crochet edge in mustard gold.
  5. Weave in all remaining ends, then wet block the whole blanket flat, pinning each corner into a right angle and pulling the petals open.
  6. Let the blanket dry completely before you use or wash it.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

Popcorn stitches that are pulled too tight pucker the ring, so keep the 5 dc loose and pull the last loop through gently.

Long chain loops in Rounds 5, 11 and 21 that are worked too tightly will make the petals and arches pull in, so keep your chains relaxed.

Losing the corners in Round 15 makes the blanket lopsided, so mark the four corner sts and recount 44 sts between corners before you move on.

Skipping the stitch count at the end of a round causes the next band to not fit, so count against the number in brackets every time.

Important Notes

Gauge is not critical, but Round 14 should measure about 13 inches across and the finished blanket about 38 inches square after blocking.

Yarn amounts are estimates for the full 31 rounds. Buy a little extra of each color, especially hot pink and teal.

Always block the finished piece. Blocking opens the petals, flattens the popcorns and squares the corners.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry. Cotton shrinks a little the first time, so wash a small test swatch first.
