About This Christmas Poinsettia Table Runner Crochet Pattern Pattern

This table runner is made from eight round discs: four deep green spiral discs and four cream lace discs with little red pom-pom edges. The discs overlap in a gentle zigzag, and big red poinsettias with gold bead centers sit down the middle, surrounded by leaves, berries and tiny white daisies.

It measures about 13 inches wide and 30 inches long. You will use single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, chain spaces and simple decreases. It suits crocheters who are ready to try lace and 3D flowers.

Why You'll Love This Christmas Poinsettia Table Runner Crochet Pattern Pattern

I love how each piece is small and relaxing to make. You can crochet a disc or a few petals in one evening and still feel like you got something done.

The poinsettias are my favorite part. The little center vein on each petal gives them real texture, and the gold beads catch the light so nicely.

Switch Things Up

Try white poinsettias on silver and ivory discs for a winter look, or use pink petals and soft sage green for a spring table. You can also use DK weight cotton with a smaller hook for a more delicate runner, or make just two discs and one flower for a small centerpiece mat.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Block all discs flat and let them dry completely.
  2. Lay the discs in four pairs down the table, each pair with one green and one cream disc side by side. Overlap each disc by about 1 inch and alternate which side the cream disc sits on from pair to pair.
  3. Pin the overlaps and sew the discs together with matching yarn using small whipstitches on the back.
  4. For each large poinsettia, sew 8 large petals in a star around a center point, then place 6 small petals on top, turning them to fill the gaps. Sew a cluster of gold beads in the center.
  5. Make the small top flower from 8 small petals only. Sew each flower where two pairs of discs meet.
  6. Sew the leaves under and around each flower, then add the berry clusters and the three daisies along the middle of the runner.
  7. Weave in all ends and steam the finished runner gently, keeping the iron off the flowers.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

Skipping the marker on the green discs. Move the marker up every round so the increases stay in line and the disc lies flat.

Pulling the chain arches too tight on the lace discs. Keep them loose so the lace opens up and the disc does not cup.

Making the petals too small. Block a few and test them against your disc before making all 56.

Sewing the pom-poms on too early. Block the lace discs first, then add the pom-poms so they stay fluffy.

Important Notes

Cotton yarn has little stretch, so keep your tension relaxed and even.

Gauge does not need to be exact, but every disc should be about the same size.

Block the discs before joining so they sit flat on the table.

Hand wash cold and lay flat to dry, and remove the berries and beads if you plan to machine wash.

I hope you enjoy making this one as much as I did. Happy hooking and merry Christmas!

You Ask, We Answer

How big is the finished runner?

About 13 inches wide and 30 inches long. Add or remove a pair of discs to change the length.

Can I use a different yarn weight?

Yes. DK cotton with a 3.5 mm hook gives smaller discs and a more delicate runner, so you may want to add extra rounds to reach the same size.

How do I wash it?

Hand wash in cool water, press out the water in a towel and lay it flat to dry.
