Denim Patch Granny Square Bed Cover Crochet Pattern
You need granny squares, puff stitches, shells and a little hand sewing on the denim.
Each 12 inch block is a small project you can carry anywhere.
Old jeans pockets become the star squares of the whole bed cover.
About This Denim Patch Granny Square Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
This bed cover is a checkerboard of twenty 12 inch blocks set in a grid of 4 columns by 5 rows. Ten blocks are washed denim squares with the back pocket still sewn on, framed in cream crochet. The other ten are granny squares in cream, mid blue and light blue: five flower squares with a puffy center and five classic striped squares.
The blocks are joined with simple slip stitch seams and finished with a cream shell band and three scalloped rounds in light blue, mid blue and cream. It measures about 58 by 70 inches, works in US terms and suits a confident beginner ready for a bigger project, or anyone who loves granny squares.
Why You'll Love This Denim Patch Granny Square Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
I love that every block is small and portable. You can crochet a square on the sofa, in the car or at a friend's house, and the bed cover grows without you noticing.
I also love giving old jeans a second life. The pockets, rivets and stitching add so much character, and the soft blues of the yarn make the whole bedroom feel calm and cozy.
Switch Things Up
Try a blush, sage and cream palette instead of blues, or use black denim with gray and white yarn for a modern look. Make only 6 blocks in a 2 by 3 grid for a baby blanket, or add one more column and one more row for a full size cover. You can also stitch a small crochet heart onto one pocket, or turn a single block into a matching pillow cover.

Assembly Instructions
- Make 10 Denim Pocket Blocks, 5 Flower Granny Squares and 5 Classic Granny Squares, weave in all ends, and block every block to 12 inches square.
- Lay the blocks out on a large floor or bed following the checkerboard in the Layout section, and check that the colors and flower squares are spread evenly.
- Join the blocks into 5 rows of 4. Hold two blocks with right sides together and slip stitch through the back loops of both edges, stitch for stitch (50 stitches per edge, counting the outer stitch of each corner).
- Join the 5 rows in the same way, matching the seams carefully, and slip stitch through all four corner stitches where four blocks meet.
- Lightly block the joined center so it lies flat, then work Border Round 1 around the whole piece to set the stitch counts.
- Work Border Rounds 2 to 6, changing color as written, then fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Steam or wet block the finished cover on a clean floor with mats and pins, shaping the scalloped edge so every fan lies flat, and let it dry fully.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Uneven blanket stitches on the denim make the frame pucker, so mark the 30 stitches on each side before you start and keep them evenly spaced.
Skipping the corner clusters in the granny rounds makes squares curl, so always work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each corner space.
Blocks that are different sizes cause wavy seams, so measure every block and block it to 12 inches before joining.
Joining too tightly pulls the seam in, so keep your slip stitches loose and the same tension as your crochet.
Important Notes
Gauge: each finished block should measure about 12 inches square with a 4.0 mm hook. If yours is smaller, go up a hook size for the granny squares and the denim frames.
Wash and dry the jeans on hot before cutting so they do not shrink after you crochet around them.
The yarn amounts are approximate and the cover is heavy, so buy a little extra cream for the border.
Wash the finished cover in cold water on a gentle cycle and dry it flat.
I hope you enjoy making this denim and crochet bed cover as much as I enjoyed designing it. Take it one square at a time, and share it with someone you love when it is done.
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
How big is the finished bed cover?
It measures about 58 by 70 inches after blocking, which suits a twin bed or works as a generous throw on a larger bed.
Can I use a different yarn weight or make it larger?
Yes. A different yarn weight changes the block size, so make a test square first. For a full size cover, add one column and one row, keep the checkerboard, and buy about 30 percent more yarn.
How do I wash it?
Wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle and lay it flat to dry. The denim may fade a little over time, which adds to its charm.
