About This Sage Green Flower and Leaf Table Runner Crochet Pattern Pattern

This table runner measures about 40 inches long and 17 inches wide. Five flat spiral discs sit in the middle, framed by four lacy flowers, ten pointed leaves and seven small ring motifs. Everything is made in one soft sage green and sewn together where the edges touch.

You will use sc, hdc, dc, increases and simple chain space lace. It suits a confident beginner who wants to try lace, and it looks lovely on a dining table, a console or a long sideboard.

Why You'll Love This Sage Green Flower and Leaf Table Runner Crochet Pattern Pattern

I love how calm this runner looks. The tight stitches on the discs make a smooth, almost woven texture, and the lacy flowers add just enough softness.

Every motif is small and quick, so you can stitch a few in front of the TV and see your runner grow a little each evening.

Switch Things Up

Try a warm terracotta for an autumn table, or soft cream for a wedding or spring look. You can make each flower in a different pastel and keep the discs neutral. Add or remove discs and leaves to fit a shorter table, or use thicker cotton cord for a bold modern runner.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Block all the discs, flowers, leaves and rings so they lie flat, then let everything dry completely.
  2. Lay the 2 large discs in the middle of your work surface, one above the other, so their edges almost touch. Place the 3 medium discs at the top and on either side.
  3. Place the 4 flowers around the discs, 2 on each side, so that each petal edge touches the edge of a disc.
  4. Tuck the 10 leaves next to the flowers and at the two ends of the runner, with the tips pointing outward.
  5. Add the 7 ring motifs in the gaps between the discs and flowers until the layout is balanced.
  6. When you like the arrangement, pin every touching point. Sew the motifs together with whipstitch and matching yarn, going through the back loops only so the seams lie flat.
  7. Turn the runner over, secure every join with a second knot and weave in all ends.
  8. Spritz the finished runner lightly and let it dry flat.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

Placing the increases on top of each other in the disc rounds makes the disc look like a hexagon, so move the start of each increase one stitch further each round.

Skipping the blocking leaves the discs cupped and the flower petals curled, so pin and spritz every motif before joining.

Sewing the motifs together too tightly pulls the runner out of shape, so keep your whipstitches loose and flat.

Making the chain spaces on the flowers too short closes the lace, so check that each ch-5 and ch-7 space is loose enough to open up.

Important Notes

Keep your tension snug on the discs so they stay flat and firm, but loosen up for the chain spaces on the flowers.

Gauge does not need to be exact. If your discs are bigger or smaller, move the motifs closer or farther apart to fill your table.

Hand wash gently in cool water and dry flat. Use a little starch on the flowers if you like a crisper look.

I hope this runner brings a calm, natural feel to your table. Stitch a few motifs at a time and happy hooking!

You Ask, We Answer

How big is the finished runner?

About 40 inches long and 17 inches wide using worsted weight cotton and a 3.5 mm hook. You can add or remove motifs to change the size.

Can I use a different yarn weight?

Yes. Thicker yarn gives larger motifs and a bolder runner, while thinner cotton gives a more delicate look. Make one disc first to check the size.

How do I wash it?

Hand wash gently in cool water with mild soap, press out the water with a towel and dry it flat. Re-pin the flowers while damp if you want the petals to keep their shape.
