Sage and Cream Fan Lace Bed Cover Crochet Pattern
You need rounds, chain loops and small fans, and a simple seam to join.
Each square takes about half an hour, so work a few at a time.
Sage green and cream lace gives a bedroom a calm and fresh look.
About This Sage and Cream Fan Lace Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
This bed cover is made from 110 square lace motifs. Each square has four sage green fans in the center, open cream lace around them, and cream scalloped fans in the corners. The squares are joined edge to edge in 10 columns by 11 rows, and where four corners meet the little fans make a small flower.
It measures about 85 by 94 inches (216 by 239 cm) and is made in DK weight cotton with a 3.5 mm hook. The scalloped outer edge of the squares is the edge of the cover, so there is no border to add. It suits crocheters who enjoy lace and want a big, airy project they can make piece by piece.
Why You'll Love This Sage and Cream Fan Lace Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
I love how light this cover feels, even though it is so big. Each square is a small lace picture, and I can carry one in my bag and work on it anywhere.
Sage green and cream is such a calm mix. I like to picture it in a sunny bedroom with a few plants nearby, and it would make a gentle gift for someone special.
Switch Things Up
Try dusty blue and cream, soft gray and white, or terracotta and ivory for a different mood. For a baby blanket, join 4 by 5 squares in a soft pastel. For a sofa throw, make 5 by 6 squares. You can also make a matching pillow cover from 4 squares, or work all the rounds in one color for a calm tone on tone look.

Assembly Instructions
- Make all 110 squares and block each one to about 8.5 inches (21.5 cm), so they all match.
- Lay out the squares in 11 rows of 10 on a big bed or the floor, so you can check that the fans all face the same way.
- Join the squares of each row into a strip with the sc seam, working through the back loops of both squares.
- Join the 11 strips one under the other with the same seam, matching the corners so that four squares meet at every crossing.
- Weave in all the ends and block the whole cover flat with pins, so the corner flowers open and the lace lies smooth.
- Steam the scalloped outer edge lightly so it lies flat when it hangs over the sides of the bed.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Working the fans into the wrong loops makes the square lopsided, so check in Round 4 that every fan has exactly 11 stitches.
Skipping the extra stitches in the corner scallops flattens the corner flowers, so work (sc, 5 dc, sc) in the two corner loops of Round 7.
Joining the seams too tightly makes the lace pucker, so keep the seam stitches as loose as your scallops.
Using a different hook for some squares changes their size, so use the same hook and the same yarn for all 110 squares.
Important Notes
Gauge: a finished square should measure about 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) across the flat sides after blocking. Make one swatch square first, because sizes and yarn amounts are estimated from the photo.
Blocking is very important for lace, so pin out each square to its size and let it dry flat before you join.
Wash gently in cool water on a delicate cycle with a color catcher, and dry flat, so the cream stays bright and the sage green does not bleed.
I hope you enjoy stitching these soft green fans as much as I did. Take your time, one square at a time, and send me a photo of your cover when it is done.
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
How big is the finished bed cover?
It measures about 85 by 94 inches (216 by 239 cm) with 110 squares. Add or remove rows and columns to fit your mattress and the drop you want.
Can I use a different yarn weight?
Yes. A lighter yarn gives smaller squares, so you will need more of them, and a heavier yarn gives bigger squares and fewer of them. Make one swatch square and measure it before you decide.
How do I wash and care for it?
Wash gently in cool water and dry flat. Cotton yarn is sturdy, but use a color catcher the first few times and block it again after washing to open the lace.
Success!
