About This Cream and Blue Filet Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
This bed cover is made from soft cream filet panels with an hourglass diamond motif, divided by four deep royal blue stripes. The open mesh and small solid blocks give it a light, lacy look, and a scalloped blue edge finishes it.
It measures about 75 by 91 inches after blocking. You will use basic double crochet, chain spaces, single crochet and a simple shell edge. It suits a crocheter who has finished a few blankets and wants a big, rewarding project.
Why You'll Love This Cream and Blue Filet Bed Cover Crochet Pattern Pattern
I love that this bed cover is made in small pieces. Each panel is about 11 inches square, so I can carry one in my bag and work on it anywhere.
I also love how the cream and blue look in a bright bedroom. It feels classic and cozy, and it makes a wonderful gift for a wedding or a new home.
Switch Things Up
Try a few changes to make it yours. Swap the royal blue for sage green, dusty rose or navy. Make 4 columns by 5 rows for a throw blanket, or 3 columns by 4 rows for a baby blanket. Crochet a matching pillow cover from 2 panels and a stripe. You can also finish the edge with a simple sc round instead of the shells.

Assembly Instructions
- Weave in all ends, then block each of the 48 panels and 4 strips to size so every seam will line up.
- Join 8 panels into a column by matching Row 15 of one panel to Row 1 of the next and working sc through both loops across all 46 sts of each seam. Make 6 columns.
- Join 2 columns side by side with a whipstitch seam through the edge sts, matching the 120 row-ends. Make 3 bands this way.
- Sew a blue stripe strip to each side of every band in the same way, so the order is stripe, band, stripe, band, stripe, band, stripe.
- Lay the cover flat, pin it to size and steam block it, then let it dry fully.
- Work Round 1 of the border in blue around the whole cover, placing a stitch marker in each corner.
- Work Round 2, the shell edge, and check that a shell lands in the middle of every corner.
- Block the edge flat so the scallops open evenly.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Miscounting squares in a long filet row is easy, so check that each row has 15 squares before you turn.
Skipping the turning ch dc at the end of a row makes the edges slant, so always work the last dc in the top of the turning ch.
Panels that are not blocked to the same size will not line up, so block them all the same way before joining.
The edge round only divides evenly if you follow the exact sc counts, so count the sts on each side before starting the shells.
Important Notes
Gauge: 15 squares and 15 rows make a panel of about 11 by 11 inches. Make one panel first and adjust your hook size if needed.
Yarn amounts and finished sizes are estimates, so keep a little extra of each color.
Wash gently in cool water with a color catcher because the dark blue and the cream are used together, then dry flat.
Block firmly, because filet mesh opens up and shows the motif best when it is stretched to size.
I hope you enjoy making this bed cover as much as I enjoyed designing it. Take it one panel at a time, and before long you will have a cozy heirloom for your bedroom.
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
What size is the finished bed cover?
It is about 75 by 91 inches after blocking, which suits a full or queen bed with a short drop. Add a column of panels or a row of panels for more width or length.
Can I use a different yarn weight?
Yes. Lighter yarn with a smaller hook gives smaller panels and more of them, and heavier yarn gives larger panels. Make one panel first and measure it before you buy all your yarn.
How do I wash and care for it?
Wash it gently in cool water with a color catcher, then dry it flat. Do not wring it, because the open mesh can stretch.
