Calla Lily Lace Bedspread Crochet Pattern with Scalloped Edge
You need basic stitches, a little sewing and the confidence to join many squares.
Each square with its flower details takes about 2 hours, so make a few at a time.
Open lace and tiny yellow centers give it an heirloom feel.
About This Calla Lily Lace Bedspread Crochet Pattern with Scalloped Edge Pattern
This bedspread is made from 80 cream lace squares. Each square has a calla lily with four trumpet-shaped petals, a raised yellow center and a green crescent leaf sewn under the petals. The squares are joined with slip stitch seams that sit on the right side as raised ridges, and a scalloped shell edge finishes the cover.
Worked in worsted cotton with a 4 mm hook, it measures about 72 by 90 inches before the edge. That fits a full bed with a generous drop on the sides and at the foot. It suits crocheters who are comfortable with granny squares and enjoy a little sewing for the final details.
Why You'll Love This Calla Lily Lace Bedspread Crochet Pattern with Scalloped Edge Pattern
I love this project because every square is small and portable. I can crochet one on the sofa or on a trip, and adding the yellow center and green leaf at the end feels like finishing a tiny flower.
The open lace lets the light through, so the bedspread looks delicate but still feels warm. It also makes a gift that people treasure for years.
Switch Things Up
Try a pale pink flower with a sage leaf, a soft blue flower on white or a single color version for a quiet look. For a baby blanket, join 5 by 6 squares to get about 45 by 54 inches. For a sofa throw, join 5 by 7 squares for about 45 by 63 inches. Join 2 by 2 squares to make an 18 inch pillow cover that matches the bedspread, and finish it with the same scalloped edge.

Assembly Instructions
- Block all 80 squares to about 9 inches (23 cm) before you do anything else so every square is the same size.
- Sew one yellow center and one green leaf onto each square, following the sewing note in the Green Leaf section, before you join the squares.
- Lay the squares out on the floor or a bed in 10 rows of 8 and check that every lily and leaf points the same way.
- Join each row of 8 squares into a strip with sl st seams, wrong sides together, through the back loops only.
- Join the 10 strips in the same way, matching the seams, and work 1 sl st through all four corners where four squares meet.
- Weave in every end on the wrong side before you start the border.
- Work Border Rounds 1 and 2, then the scalloped shell round, around the whole outer edge.
- Steam or damp block the finished bedspread so the seams lie flat and the shells open out evenly.
Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them
Making the ch-9 arcs in Round 3 too short squeezes the petals, so keep the arcs loose enough to go around each petal.
Sewing the leaves on in different directions makes the pattern look messy, so lay out all the squares before you sew.
Joining with right sides together hides the raised ridge on the inside, so always hold the squares with wrong sides together.
Skipping the blocking step leaves the lace squares uneven, so pin every square to size before joining.
Important Notes
Each square should measure about 9 inches (23 cm) after blocking with a 4 mm hook. Sizes and stitch counts are estimated from a photo, so make one test square first and adjust your hook size if needed.
Plan for about 3,400 g of cream, 200 g of yellow and 250 g of green worsted cotton, and a little more if you crochet loosely.
Wash cold on a gentle cycle with a color catcher, because the green dye can bleed onto the cream, and dry flat.
I hope this lace bedspread brings a lot of warmth and light to your bedroom. Take it one square at a time, and send me a photo when you sew on the last leaf.
Crochet Abbreviations
You Ask, We Answer
What size is the finished bedspread?
It is about 72 by 90 inches (183 by 229 cm) before the scalloped edge, made of 80 squares in 8 columns and 10 rows. For a floor-length drape on a taller bed, add one more row of 8 squares at the foot.
Can I use a different yarn weight or make a different size?
Yes. With a lighter cotton and a 3.5 mm hook the squares come out smaller, so you need more of them. For a baby blanket join 5 by 6 squares, and for a throw join 5 by 7 squares.
How do I wash and care for it?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a color catcher, then dry flat. Gently shape the scalloped edge while the bedspread is damp so the shells open out evenly.
